112. Tutorial #12

AtM 6.0 Tutorial #2!

for
1. Starting off with this screencap, crop and resize to get this base layer:

2. Duplicate the base layer twice and set both to Screen, opacity 100

3. Duplicate the base layer and bring to the top, Colorize to these settings and then set to Soft Light, opacity 36.5. Create a new layer from visible at the top.

4. Duplicate the new top layer and play around with the Contrast, Hue, Saturation and Lightness levels to get something like this:

I know, it looks weird and washed out and under-contrasted, but that’s just setting up the background, don’t worry :P
5. Paste this texture by

6. Duplicate that texture, rotate 90 degrees anti-clockwise and set to Soft Light, opacity 43.9

7. Take this texture by

8. Duplicate the above texture, rotate 180 degrees and set to Screen, opacity 34.9

9. Now take the new layer from visible we made at the end of Step 3, duplicate it and bring the new layer to the top, and then cut out Sansa

10. Duplicate the cutout layer and adjust Saturation levels to this and set to Screen, opacity 55.7

11. Duplicate the above layer once, keep all settings and opacity the same

12. I wanted Sansa’s skin to stand out a bit more because she was starting to blend into the background too much so I duplicated the above layer, desaturated it completely, erased everything except her skin and set to Screen, opacity 100

13. Now we go about making her shadow. Take one of the cutout Sansa layers (any will do), duplicate and adjust contrast and colour until you just have a black silhouette like this. Then use the perspective tool to adjust it to something like this. Move this shadow layer to behind all the cutout Sansa layers but above all the ohfreckle texture layers (should now look like this) and set to Soft Light, opacity 82.4. Duplicate this layer and set to Soft Light, opacity 47.5.

Starting to look familiar?
14. Take this texture by

15. Duplicate this layer and erase a bit more so it looks like this, set to Screen, opacity 100

16. Take the tinebrella texture and stretch it a bit to look like this, set to Screen, opacity 58.8

17. Paste this texture by

18. Duplicate this layer, same settings

19. Paste this texture by

20. Duplicate this layer and set to Soft Light, opacity 28.6

21. Take the desaturated Sansa cutout from Step 10, duplicate and bring to the top. Set to Soft Light, opacity 33.7

22. Duplicate the above layer and set to Multiply, opacity 50.0. Erase where it’s a bit too dark like her face and upper body (my erased layer looks like this), and that’s it!

Close enough! :D
My tutorials are intended to demonstrate my icon-making process, and hopefully to help other icon makers - they are not here so anyone can copy my work, so please don't!

For every icon I make I include it in a PowerPoint slide with the original screencap, all textures used, and any fonts/text, just in case I want to come back to it/remake it - comes in pretty handy for things like this too :P
