I'm going to study French and Maths, and hopefully I'll be able to take up Arabic in my 2nd year too.

Interesting combo, your uni system must be more permissive than ours then, if you can mix two subjects with nothing in common; well you'll do French lit then! I must say I admire you for taking Maths at uni... =) Arabic sounds nice, I was thinking of taking Russian alongside English for my 2nd year.

Yeah I think it is, although there are only 9 unis in the country that do the French/Maths combination. We can also choose (most of the time) any combo of A-Levels we like, whereas I think in France you have to choose between Scientific/Literature/Economics sections?

Nice! Someone I know is doing French and Russian at the moment, and she's loving it.

Yes, we have to choose between sections, and it's rubbish because we can't drop subjects. I was in Economics, and we still had Maths until the end and Biology until last year. And the Lit students had to take Physics/Biology and Maths, and the Scientific Section had to take Foreign Languages and Philosophy for the exams. Whereas in uni we can't mix too much. Doesn't make sense... No wonder everybody envies the British universities. ;)

Eeek, I'd have hated that. I took Maths, French, English Lit. and Classical Civilisations for Lower Sixth, took up Further Maths halfway through the year (very near wrote 'halfway through the ep' here - I think I've been watching too much TV!), and then at the beginning of Upper Sixth I dropped English. It's quite flexible here - and I'm VERY grateful! I'd have had a horrible time choosing between the two sides.

Further Maths? I already had a C or something with 'Normal' Maths lol.
Wow, your subjects sound more interesting than the ones I had. Classical Civilisations, did you study Latin and Greek? And no History at all or second Foreign Language?

Neither. We only studied the history, not the languages. I did both the Romans and the Greeks (and their literature), their history and social context, but not the language.

Nope, no History or second language! There was no obligation for me to take any subject at all - I could choose whatever I liked! Well, within reason - anything my school offered =P
